Newfield Exploration Co
Newfield Exploration Company was an independent energy company engaged in the exploration, development and production of crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs). The company was founded in 1989 and had its headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas.
Newfield operated in various oil and gas plays across the United States, with a focus on unconventional resource plays such as the Anadarko Basin in Oklahoma, the Uinta Basin in Utah, and the Williston Basin in North Dakota. The company also had international operations in Malaysia and China.
In 2019, Newfield Exploration was acquired by California-based oil and gas producer, California Resources Corporation, in a cash-and-stock deal valued at approximately $2.2 billion. At the time of the acquisition, Newfield had a market capitalization of around $3.2 billion and produced approximately 192,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d).
Prior to its acquisition, Newfield's common stock was listed and traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "NFX." However, since the acquisition in 2019, Newfield Exploration no longer exists as a separate public company.
